Invited to male dancers' fete

BHUBANESWAR: City-based internationally acclaimed Rudrakshya Odissi Ensemble has been invited to represent India in both Asian male dancers' festival being hosted in Chennai and Pondicherry this week.

Rudrakshya's founder-director and acclaimed choreographer Guru Bichitrananda Swain said his troupe would perform in Male Matters, an exclusive male dancers' festival hosted in Pondicherry on Tuesday by Aurodhan Art Foundation in association with Sutra Foundation of Kuala Lumpur, Malayasia. The festival has been conceived by Sutra's founder and eminent Malayasian Odissi and Bharatanatyam dancer-choreographer Ramli Ibrahim to provide “a rare and unique platform for male dancers across the globe”, he explained. Male Matters would feature artistes from three Asian countries - Odissi by Rudrakshya from India, Bharatanatyam by Ramli Ibrahim from Malayasia and contemporary dance by Dewandaru Dance Company from Indonesia led by Rianto Manali. The festival shall also feature lecture demonstrations to make the viewers aware of the aesthetics of the three dance styles, added Aurodhan Foundation direct or Lalit Verma

Following the festival in Pondicherry, the three troupes would perform in the 4 {+t} {+h} Nartaka dance festival slated for Chennai from October 21 to 24, mentioned Guru Bichitrananda who is known for his pioneering contribution towards promotion of male dancers in Odissi. The festival is being hosted by Natyanjali Trust of Chennai, he added.
