Online system to provide local body election results

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Election Commission has made all arrangements for instant dissemination of the local body election results.

State Election Commissioner P.Kamalkutty told reporters here on Monday that an online system would provide live results to the public as well as the media once the counting started on October 27.

The National Informatics Mission, IT Mission and the BSNL have developed a software, e-trends, for providing the results on time. The seats gained by the rival fronts and candidates in each local body and district will be available online time to time.

The votes polled for the district, block and grama panchayats will be counted simultaneously.

The final results in the urban civic bodies, where electronic voting machines are used, are expected to be available by afternoon. As many as 7,500 electronic voting machines will be used for polling.

Of the 21,595 wards, the commission has identified 3,218 sensitive. There are 70,915 candidates in the fray. There are 16 counting centres in the capital, 15 in Kollam, 11 in Pathanamthitta, 17 in Alappuzha, 15 in Kottayam, nine in Idukki, 26 in Ernakulam, 23 in Thrissur, 17 in Palakkad, 22 in Malappuram, 15 in Kozhikode, five in Wayanad, 16 in Kannur and nine in Kasaragod.
