KOLKATA: Mohun Bagan resumed its Calcutta Football League pursuit by thrashing George Telegraph 7-0 in a premier division encounter here at its home ground on Tuesday. Having lost the Federation Cup title to traditional rival East Bengal earlier in the month, Mohun Bagan utilised the short break thereafter preparing for the title defence in the local league. The Nigerian striking combination of Edeh Chidi and Subair Muritala Ali shared the spoils, fetching a pair of hat-tricks in the process. Chidi scored four while Ali struck thrice to realise one of the biggest winning margins in recent memory for Mohun Bagan. Beginning with a goal in the first minute, Chidi struck at regular intervals to complete his hat-trick and had Bagan leading 3-0 at the break. Mohun Bagan scored four more in the second half with Muritala Ali scoring thrice and Chidi accounting for one. The win helped Bagan, which had played five matches before the Fed Cup, move up the league standings tallying 13 points from six outings while George Telegraph remained at the bottom with five points from 11 matches.
