KOLKATA: Mohammedan Sporting Club has revealed elaborate plans to celebrate the platinum jubilee of its Calcutta Football League triumph in 1934. Sporting, which became the first Indian club to manage the feat 75 years ago, will organise a commemorative Platinum Jubilee Cup tournament, which will have as participants the other two city giants, Mohun Bagan and East Bengal, and a team representing Sheffield FC apart from the host team. The English side, which has received the FIFA Order of Merit as the oldest football club in the world, will be the prime attraction in the two-day tournament to be played in a knockout format on November 12 and 14 at the Salt Lake Stadium. The club has also planned to felicitate its former players, coaches and officials with the title of ‘Mohammedan Jewel' during the occasion. Other programmes planned by the club include awarding of scholarships to young footballers and organising football clinics for youngsters in collaboration with Sheffield FC coaches. A special ‘postal cover' in commemoration of the win will also be launched. The programme comes close on heels of Mohun Bagan celebrating the centenary of its 1911 IFA Shield triumph.
