Oriya film selected for international fest

BHUBANESWAR: Much to the cheer of the Oriya film industry and the Oriya cine buffs, Oriya feature film Swayamsiddha has been selected to be screened in the Indian Panorama section in the forthcoming International Film festival in Goa.

The film would join the elite league of acclaimed films like Paa, 3 Idiots, Ravanan and Tere Bin Laden. A 10-member jury headed by filmmaker N.Chandra previewed 140 movies in all Indian languages and selected 26 feature films for the Panorama, as per the notification of the Directorate of Film Festival, New Delhi.

The festival would kick off on November 22 and shall conclude on December 2.

Directed by Sudhansu Sahoo, Swayamsiddha features Ollywood superstar-turned-parliamentarian Siddhant Mohapatra, Mumbai-based Oriya actor Sunil Kumar and debutante actress Yukta.

The film had hit headlines for its story on Naxlism and a case was filed against it in Orissa High Court too.
