Bangalore: The three-day Bangalore IT.biz, to be inaugurated by Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee on October 28, will focus on several areas of innovation, including the Animation, VFX, Gaming and Comics (AVGC) sector on which Karnataka is set to unveil a policy. Ashok Kumar C. Manoli, Principal Secretary, IT, Biotechnology, and Science and Technology, said on Tuesday that this would be the first step towards creating a conducive atmosphere for the AVGC industry to flourish in Bangalore. Discussions on the proposed ICT (information and communication technology) Policy and Hardware Policy of Karnataka will also be held at the State's flagship ICT event. The event will have a dedicated session in which the task force on ‘The future of broadband' will unveil its findings. Core theme Bangalore IT.Biz 2010, with its core theme of ‘Billion strong: empowerment by ICT', will have a special focus on small and medium enterprises in the IT sector. “The future growth of IT business in India will be driven by small and medium enterprises, particularly in tier-II and tier-III cities,” Mr. Manoli said. The event will see a delegation of about 40 CEOs visiting from Israel. Chile will also be participating for the second consecutive year. The rural IT quiz this time gets bigger with about two million students expected to participate. Students from the north-eastern districts are expected to participate in a big way for the first time. Mr. Mukherjee will participate in a one-to-one discussion with CEOs at the event. Some of the prominent speakers in the conferences include Sam Pitroda, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Public Information; Usha Thorat, Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India; Captain Gopinath, CMD of Deccan Charters; and Pramod Bhasin, President and CEO of Genpact.
