THENI: Farmers should avail themselves of the special cattle offering scheme to increase their income. The district administration planned to distribute 2,000 cattle to farmers in the district under this new scheme, said Collector P. Muthuveeran. He was inaugurating the new building for Surulipatti panchayat office near Cumbum on Tuesday. Nationalised banks and cooperative banks would extend financial assistance to farmers to buy cattle. “We had distributed only 180 cattle so far. This facility would help farmers enhance their income and also increase milk production, he added. Development works worth Rs.71 lakh had been implemented at Surulipatti panchayats. Now, the panchayat has got a library building, school play ground, new building for anganwadi centre and group houses for the poor. Besides, three development works were taken up under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee scheme.
