Kolkata: One person was killed and five were injured after supporters of the CPI (M) and the Trinamool Congress clashed over immersion of a Durga idol at Kulipara in Bidhannagar on the eastern fringe of the city on Tuesday. Several houses were also ransacked by the mob. According to the police, the trouble broke out between the two groups on Monday evening but was settled thereafter. “They, however, regrouped on Tuesday morning and started firing at each other. The clash soon became a political confrontation between the two parties,” S.K. Purakayastha, Additional D-G (Law and Order), said.
