‘Our aspirations not fulfilled'

In response to Public Eye feature on failure of the Government to introduce KSRTC city bus service, B. Smitha Rao of Ladyh ill said:

“The situation of scarcity of resources and increased demand is the norm of the present day. In such a context public private partnership is the way forward.

Instead of the RTA issuing new permits, Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) should acquire existing private buses first on a pilot basis and then on a larger scale. The private bus owners should be partners in the true sense and collaborate with KSRTC for the common good of society. Interceptors with cameras should be set up at a distance of every kilometre to check over-speeding and wrong methods of overtaking. Not more than 30 people of seating capacity of buses should be allowed to board the bus. ”

Hareesh Kumar K., president, Mangalore University Non-Teaching Employees Association, said,“It is very sad that the promise made by the Transport Minister has not been implemented in Mangalore even after two yearsWe want KSRTC buses with Private buses on roads which may pave the way for healthy competition.

Ultimately the Citizens will be benefited. The district administration should reconsider it and issue permits to KSRTC buses immediately.

At this time, issuance of permits to KSRTC buses in Mangalore-Konaje route should be considered on priority as so many educational institutions and hospitals have come up in this area apart from Mangalore University. The students, employees and the general public face problems in this route. The only solution is the introduction of KSRTC buses.”
