NEW DELHI: Mobile handset manufacturer Micromax Informatics on Wednesday tied up with Israel's Modu Ltd. to launch co-branded and customised ‘modu T' 3.5G touchphone in India.

Priced at Rs.12,500, the phone has a 2.2 inch touch-screen and memory card slot for external memory card capability up to 32GB. The phone has functionalities and applications which include web access, instant messaging, direct links to different social networks, a built in FM radio, GPS and music player. ‘modu T' includes a wide variety of applications and operates on the Qualcomm's Brew operating system.

“The modu T phone gives consumers the modular mobile experience. “Through the new smartphone, we targeting ‘the aspirational' segment of Indian consumers, who are the early adopters of technology and passionate about electronic gadgets,” Micromax Business Director Vikas Jain told journalists here.

Micromax is also eyeing Rs.2,500 crore revenue in the current fiscal, against Rs.1,600 crore clocked last year. The company, which now exports handsets to Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and the West Asia, plans to enter Brazil soon.

“We are waiting for clearance for handsets from Anatel and then we would launch our products in Brazil,” Mr. Jain said.

From October onwards, Micromax expects exports to account for sales of 1-lakh units, of the total 12-lakh handsets the company sells every month.
