According to agency sources, Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) police laid a trap and arrested T.S. Prasanna Kumar, NHAI Project Director, Krishnagiri, holding additional charge of Vellore, after he allegedly took the bribe from R. Venkateswara Reddy, the toll collection contractor. The official allegedly demanded Rs.1 lakh from Mr. Reddy to sanction contract bills of Rs.6 lakh.
The contractor manages the toll plaza at Sriperumbudur on the Chennai-Bangalore National Highway. The accused was arrested after he took the money at a hotel here.
CBI sources said preliminary enquiries revealed that the NHAI official had made investments in Karnataka. Searches were on at his house in Bangalore. Kumar was produced in a special court and has been remanded to judicial custody.
