Tuticorin Corporation nod for shifting railway station

Heated exchange:Councillors engaged in an argument during the Corporation Council meeting in Tuticorin on Wednesday.

Tuticorin: A nod for shifting of the existing Melur Railway Station in Tuticorin from the second level crossing to a place near the third level crossing was given by Mayor R. Kasthuri Thangam before councillors following their unanimous consent at an emergency council meeting on Wednesday.

The decision for change of railway stations emerged when the public faced difficulties of traffic congestion at the second level crossing of Melur station. It was made for the convenience of the public.

Madasamy, DMK councillor of ward 37, indicated that the residents in corporation limits were being supplied drinking water once in four days and hence sought the intervention of officials to sort out the issue immediately. The Mayor assured of proper steps to meet the requirements.

Meanwhile Veerabahu, AIADMK councillor of ward 27, said the name of Anna Centenary Memorial Buildings was not properly mentioned in the agenda copy of the council meeting. He raised a poser saying, “When the name of the old building was properly mentioned in every meeting earlier why not the same procedure be followed with the new building?” The DMK councillors picked up a wordy dual with him for a while. Thommai Yesuvadiyan, Deputy Mayor and P. Kubendran, Commissioner of Corporation were present.
