Mumbai: A day after Mohammad Ajmal Amir Kasab, the lone surviving gunman of the November 26, 2008, attacks in Mumbai threw a tantrum, spat in front of the camera and insisted on attending court in person, he did not appear on camera for the proceedings on Wednesday.
Following his misbehaviour, the Bombay High Court, which is hearing the confirmation case of his death penalty, had ruled that Kasab be produced before the court via video conferencing only if he wished to see the proceedings.
On Wednesday, the court asked the superintendent of the Arthur Road jail, where Kasab is housed, to be present in court to discuss the issue of his meeting with his lawyers.
The move comes after defence counsel Amin Solkar pointed to the court that he and co-counsel Farhana Shah were denied entry into the jail on Tuesday as they had arrived after closing time.
Mr. Solkar said it was impossible to reach the jail before 6.30 p.m. given the evening rush-hour.
The court took his problem into account and also called upon Special Public Prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam to sort out the matter with the jail authorities.
