Police stations in Ariyalur re-classified

Tiruchi: The State has sanctioned additional police strength for Ariyalur district following re-classification of the police stations.

The 16 police stations in Ariyalur district have been reclassified as “heavy,” “medium” and “light” after an assessment by a high-level committee.

The committee had taken into account various parameters for the reclassification.

They include the number of cases registered under Indian Penal Code for the past one year; cases of communal incidents registered for the past three years; special and local cases registered for the past three years; Left wing extremists activities; number of petitions received and disposed in the stations including petitions received from the Superintendent of Police; population and extent of jurisdiction; important commercial establishments, industries and educational institutions; villages and hamlets.

The State Government has sanctioned 223 additional posts, which includes two inspectors, nine sub- inspectors and 194 Grade II police constables.

Ariyalur and Jayamkondam police stations have been re-classified as “heavy,” while Meensuritti, Sendurai, Andimadam and Udayarpalayam police stations have been re-classified as “medium.”

The police stations at Kairalabad, Keelapazhur, T. Pazhur, Vikramangalam, Erumbulikurichy, Kuvagam, Tirumanur, Thalavai, Venganur and Thoothur have been re-classified as “light.”
