The Hindu to hold book reading sessions

Eight shortlisted books to be read by members of The Little Theatre

HYDERABAD: As a prelude to The Hindu Best Fiction Award 2010, The Hindu-Sunday Magazine will be organising book reading sessions of eight of the 11 shortlisted works by members of The Little Theatre in Hyderabad on October 22 and 29.

The first book reading session will see books Saraswati Park (authored by Anjali Joseph), If I Could Tell You (Soumya Bhattacharya), The Things About Thugs (Tabish Khair) and Way To Go (Upamanyu Chatterjee), being read out at Landmark, Somajiguda, 6 p.m.

Uma Magal, an independent filmmaker; Sarala Mahidhara, former Head of the English Department of BVB Vivekananda College; Jayashree Uppal, who has been associated with BVB Vivekananda College's Department of English; Vijay Marur, creative writer, advertising and short filmmaker; B.S. Prakash, veteran theatre actor ; Nikhilesh Sinha, theatre professional who was formerly with the Economic Times and ET Television; and Shankar Melkote, convener of The Little Theatre Hyderabad and Managing Director of Margadarsi Marketing Pvt. Ltd. will take part in this session.

The second session will see Serious Men (Manu Joseph), Neti Neti (Anjum Hasan), The Pleasure Seekers (Tishani Doshi) and Eunuch Park (Palash Krishna Mehrotra) being read out by Sarala Mahidhara, Jayashree Uppal, Uma Magal, Vijay Marur, Nikhilesh Sinha, Shankar Melkote and Sridala Swamiat Landmark, Road No. 12, Banjara Hills, 6 p.m.

The award instituted by The Hindu Literary Review is a precursor to its 20th anniversary. The winner of The Hindu Best Fiction Award 2010 will be announced at an award ceremony on November 1 at Hotel Taj Connemara in Chennai.
