It requires no energy, running water and comes with a replaceable filter

HYDERABAD: Tata Chemicals Ltd. on Wednesday launched its water purifier ‘Tata Swach' in Andhra Pradesh. The water purifier is built around a bulb-like water purifier made of natural elements like rice husk ash impregnated with nano-silver particles.

The purifier was designed by Tata Research Development and Design Centre (TRDDC).

Inexpensive

It requires no energy or running water to operate and is a replaceable filter based product that can deliver safe drinking water at a price of Rs.30 per month for a family of five, company officials say.

“The product will effectively keep water borne ailments like diarrhoea, jaundice, cholera and gastroenteritis at bay. It is the cheapest water purifier available in the market and we hope that the urban poor will be able to afford it,” said General Manager, Water Purifier Business, Tata Chemicals Ltd, Sabaleel Nandy during the launch.

The Tata Swach is available in three variants of 18, 15 and 7 litres storage capacity at a cost of Rs.999, Rs.749 and Rs.499 respectively. The Tata Swach Bulb, which shuts the water supply when it expires, is priced at Rs.299 and is capable to purify 3,000 litres of water.
