District Collector M. Beena, who is also the District Election Officer, said that polling duty officials and those included under the reserve category should report at the centres concerned by 8 a.m. on Sunday. Action will be taken against those who fail to report for duty, as per the directions given by the Election Commission.

Postal ballots

Dr. Beena urged the polling duty officials not to delay the process of applying for postal ballot. She said that returning officers need to check the requests, as the marked copies of the electoral rolls will be shifted to the distribution centres by Saturday afternoon.

‘Avoid delay'

The polling officials could submit their requests to the returning officers directly to avoid the delay. Only those postal ballots received before 8 a.m. on October 27 would be considered.

Those who are physically ill/visually challenged can seek the support of a person aged above 18 years to cast their vote. The presiding officer should keep the declaration given by the person extending this help, as an official record. The election commission has made it clear that polling duty officials should not try to extend such help to the physically ill/visually challenged voters.
