House panel to decide fate of 15 MLAs

Special Correspondent

It must submit report on

October 11 ruckus

in 15 days

BANGALORE: Karnataka Legislative Assembly Speaker K.G. Bopaiah has constituted a seven-member House Committee, headed by Appachu Ranjan of the Bharatiya Janata Party, to submit a report recommending suitable action against 15 Opposition MLAs (Congress – 8 and JD(S) – 7), who have been identified for all the ruckus in the Legislative Assembly during the October 11 trust vote.

The Speaker's action is with reference to a petition filed before him by the BJP, which states that the Congress and JD(S) MLAs lowered the dignity of the House by creating a ruckus and used abusive language against the Speaker during the trust vote. The Opposition MLAs not only brought the disqualified five independent legislators to the House but also assaulted the marshals.

Unruly behaviour

Referring to the complaint, a notification issued by the Assembly Secretary S.B. Patil said 15 MLAs brought disrepute to the House by standing on the tables and shouting slogans against the Speaker.

The MLAs named are N.A. Haris, B.K. Sangameshwar, Suresh Gowda, U.T. Khader, P.M. Ashok, Rahim Khan, H.P. Manjunath, Kakaso Panduranga Patil (all Congress), C.S. Puttaraju, B.Z. Zameer Ahmed, Bandeppa Kashampur, M.T. Krishnappa, H.C. Balakrishna, K.P. Bache Gowda and K. Raju (all JD-S).

The committee has been asked to submit the report in 15 days.

Panel members

Members of the panel are S. Muniraju, Siddu Savadi, S.R. Ashwath (all BJP); Sunil Hegde (JD-S) and Rajasheskar Basavaraj Patil and H. Gopal Bhandari (Congress).
