Velmurugan shines

Chennai: P. Velmurugan of FCI won the best lifter award at the Chennai District Senior and Novice weightlifting championships conducted here.

He took the honours in the 77kg senior category after lifting a total of 277kg (126kg in snatch, 151kg in clean and jerk).

Sri Devi Gym took the team championship. Armed Police was placed second in both senior and novice categories.

The results (snatch + jerk; winners only): Senior: 56kg: G. Kathiresan 200kg; 62kg: M. Muralidaran 220kg; 69kg: Siva 242kg; 77kg: P. Vel Murugan 277kg; 85kg: I. Mani Maran 281kg; 94kg: K. Sathish 265kg; 105kg: Mohan Kumar 285kg: +105kg: Alfred Jarvish 238kg. Novice: 56kg: A. Arun Wellington 163kg; 62kg: Karthigeyan 160kg; 69kg: Siva 242kg; 77kg: Pattu Kumar 175kg; 85kg: A. Satish 195kg; 94kg: Vignesh 151kg; 105kg: S. Mohammad Saleem 192kg; +105kg: Alfred Jarwish 238kg .
