KOLKATA: The West Bengal Table Tennis Association (WBTTA), on Thursday, felicitated Soumyadip Roy, Subhajit Saha, Poulami Ghatak and Mouma Das for winning medals in the recently-concluded Commonwealth Games. They were given a cash award of Rs. 15,000 each along with a gold-plated citation and other gifts. Among those present were the former Lok Sabha Speaker Mr. Somnath Chatterjee, the State Sports Minister, Mr. Kanti Ganguly and the commissioner of police Mr. Gautam Mohan Chakrabarti. “Beating the English side on the way to winning the women's team silver was the most memorable for us,” said Poulami. “We were in a tight spot losing some matches in the preliminary stage but did creditably well to come back from that situation and win the silver,” Poulami, who also won the women's doubles bronze with her long-time partner Mouma, added. “The success was the result of the hard work we put in in the last couple of years. We lost to England in the men's team semifinals but it was great that our women gave a befitting reply,” said Soumyadip Roy. Subhajit Saha, who won the men's doubles gold partnering Achantha Sharath Kamal, could not attend the programme as he was in his hometown Siliguri to participate in a function. — Principal Correspondent
