Thrissur
Thrissur: Ollur, popularly known as ‘Chinna Roma' (Little Rome), is ready to receive pilgrims from all over the State, for the Feast of Saint Raphael. The annual festival of the Ollur Forane Church is celebrated on October 23 and 24. Feast of Saint Raphael (Malakhayude Perunnal) at Ollur Church, one of the oldest churches in Kerala built in 18th-century, draws thousands of pilgrims from far and near. Ollur church is famous for its large number of exquisitely carved sacred images in wood. It has a large number of frescoes and murals, both in Kerala and Western style. Another attraction is the more than 30- foot-tall wooden rostrum or Pushpakkoodu of the church, which has sculptures of evangelists and saints. Ollur is claimed to be the largest parish in the country. The Auxiliary Bishop of the Thrissur Archdiocese, Mar Raphael Thattil will lead the Holy Mass on Sunday. Food will be provided to about two lakh people, according to church sources.
