Deadline for construction of concrete houses

Special Correspondent

VILLUPURAM: Collector R. Palanisamy has said that the construction of a total of 10,000 concrete houses under the Kalaignar Housing Scheme in Villupuram district should be completed by November-end.

He was speaking to officials on house construction and meeting the target. Funds had been sanctioned for the construction of 37,793 concrete houses in the district this year and of these, 10,000 ought to be completed by November end.

Mr. Palanisamy said that arrangements had been made for the supply of bricks, cement and iron bars at prices fixed by the government. He warned of stringent action against brick dealers who might exploit the situation and jack up the prices.

The district would keenly watch the brick trade and wherever necessary, take corrective measures. At the same time, he said, financial assistance would be extended to those who were interested in setting up new brick kilns.

The Collector called upon the beneficiaries to adhere to government approved designs for their houses. Project Officer (DRDA) V. Manoharan and Rural Development Engineer Chandrasekar were present.
