Bid to control stray dog population
Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI: An animal birth control programme has been launched in Delhi Cantonment under an MoU signed among the Delhi Cantonment Board, the Animal Welfare Board of India and NGO Friendicoes.
The programme seeks to implement Animal Birth Control/Anti-Rabies (ABC/AR) programme to control stray dog population and spread of rabies in a humane and scientific manner.
This World Health Organisation-recommended programme involves catching stray dogs followed by sterilisation, post-operative care nursing, administering AR and releasing them in their original habitat.
The method being used is supported by laws under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960 (ABC Dogs Rules–2001).
