Deposit for water connection reduced

Staff Reporter

TIRUNELVELI: Deposit for getting drinking water connection at Sankarankovil has been reduced from Rs. 9,000 to Rs. 6,000 following the Rs. 1.33 crore grant allotted by the State Government, according to Rajya Sabha MP S. Thangavelu.

In a statement, Mr. Thangavelu said he had appealed to Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin to allocate additional funds as grant for the Sankarankovil drinking water scheme when he visited the district on August 7.

Grant allotted

Subsequently, Rs. 1.33 crore as grant was allotted for the programme, which had brought down the deposit amount to be paid by the each applicant from Rs. 9,000 to Rs. 6,000.

While the 1,600-odd applicants who had already applied for getting drinking water connection would get it shortly, others should apply immediately to get drinking water connection at the earliest, Mr. Thangavelu said.
