‘Majority of job cards issued in Bangalore Rural are bogus'

BANGALORE: Union Law and Justice Minister M. Veerappa Moily has said that over 50,000 of the 94,000 job cards issued under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act by the Bangalore Rural Zilla Panchayat are bogus.

Mr. Moily directed officials to set the matter right during the quarterly review meeting of the ZP Vigilance and Monitoring Committee of the Union Government's flagship programme on Monday.

Of the target of Rs. 67 crore, Rs. 17 crore had been released and Rs. 14.5crore spent during 2010-11, Mr. Moily said. Chief Executive Officer of the ZP, H. Chittaranjan, told Mr. Moily that under the Nirmala Puraskara Yojana, the Centre had sanctioned Rs. 17 crore to build toilets in 1,600 schools in 81 gram panchayats. Of which, 600 did not have water facility. The Minister ordered water facility be provided in these schools immediately.

The Minister also told them to integrate the Indira Awas Yojana, under which the beneficiary gets Rs. 63,500, with the State Government's housing programme.

Labour Minister and district in-charge of Bangalore Rural B.N. Bache Gowda and Deputy Commissioner R.K. Raju were present.
