Sanskrit translation of ‘Veyi Padagalu' released

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister K. Rosaiah on Monday said that the government would consider all suggestions from people to further promote Sanskrit language.

“The present generation is lacking interest in the language, which is evident from the declining enrolment in schools and colleges,” he said after releasing the book ‘Sahasra Phanah', a Sanskrit translation of the famous ‘Veyi Padagalu' written by Gnanpeet awardee Viswanatha Satyanarayana at Tyagaraya Gana Sabha.

The book was translated into Sanskrit by Prabhavati Devi.

“It was tough to translate the book into Sanskrit since retaining the original essence was very vital. I did my best and hope people would like it,” said Ms. Devi.

MLC P.V. Ranga Rao said his father and former Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao took about seven years to translate ‘Veyi Padagalu' into Hindi and was titled as ‘Sahasra Phan'.

‘Veyi Padagalu' was one of the best books written by Viswanatha Satyanarayana. He had written over 120 books and bagged the Gnanpeet award for his ‘Ramayana Kalpavruksham', said Hindu Dharma Prachara Parishat secretary Rallabandi Kavitha Prasad. Endowments Minister Gade Venkat Reddy, Former Sikkim Governor V. Rama Rao, Former Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya and others also spoke on the occasion.
