New Delhi: Adverse comments about the government-appointed interlocutors for Kashmir, whose task is very difficult, are not in the national interest, Congress spokesman Shakeel Ahmed said here on Monday. He was responding to Bharatiya Janata Party's criticism that the interlocutors had exceeded their brief. “[The interlocutors] are very competent individuals, recognised in their own fields. Adverse comments about them are not in the national interest,” Mr. Ahmed said, stressing, “As Kashmir is a sensitive issue, no individual, party or group of parties should politicise the issue. No one should do anything that will be an obstacle to the national interest.” To another question, Mr. Ahmed said the government appointed the interlocutors, keeping in mind the improved situation in Jammu and Kashmir. He, however, refused to get drawn into answering a question whether the Prime Minister was in agreement with the line that was taken by the interlocutors in their discussions with various stakeholders in the Valley, saying it was “premature” to say anything.
