Varun is champion

Erode: Chennai's Varun Kumar dispatched city-mate Loganathan (4-0) with relative ease and emerged champion of the State-level invitation snooker tournament at the S.S. Sports Academy here on Sunday.

The results:

Final: Varun Kumar (Chennai) bt Loganathan (Chennai) 89-42, 75-21, 68-18, 82-32.

Semifinals: Loganathan bt Vijay Nichani (Coimbatore) 4-2; Varun Kumar bt Balaji Reddy (Karnataka) 4-2 .

Best VPs XI CC wins

At Coimbatore, Best VPs XI Cricket Club posted a four-wicket win over Kaleeswara Cricket Club in the TNCA-CDCA second division cricket league for the Unidrive Line Trophy at the TNAU grounds on Sunday.

The scores:

Second division (Unidrive Line Trophy): Kaleeswara 136 in 38.3 overs (N. Vellaisamy three for 33) lost to Best VPs XI 139 for six in 38.1 overs.

Third division (Servall Trophy): Coimbatore Friends 106 in 34.5 overs (Karthikeyan 40, Mithun three for 14, Gowtham Raj three for 10) lost to R.S. Puram 108 for eight in 25.1 overs (Janarathan Balaji 47 not out, Thyagarajan four for 17).

Fourth division (Tirupur Textiles Trophy): Rainbow CC 217 in 48.4 overs (Ramesh 60, Ramkumar five for 27) bt ABT CC 96 in 24.5 overs (Kalingaraj 36, Mohan Raj five for 35) .

Big win for Laidlaw

At Udhagamandalam, The Laidlaw Memorial School defeated St. Joseph's Boys HSS by nine wickets in the NDCA under-18 inter-school cricket tournament recently.

The scores:

U-18: St. Joseph's BHSS (Ooty) 52 (Ajwad Khayaz four for 22, Kris Rohan Shetty three for 2) lost to The Laidlaw Memorial School 56 for one in 14.5 overs (Janak Mandanna 30 not out); Stanes HSS 115 (Rahul Prasath three for 20) lost to Riverside Public School 116 for six in 28.1 overs (S. Sanjay Krishna 54, Eugene Arputharaj three for 16).

U-15: Stanes HSS 157 for five in 40 overs (Joseph Silvin Pionus 55) lost to Riverside Public School 158 for one in 24 overs (R. Santosh 80 not out, M. Dhanush 43) .

Peeyush-Mantrachalam duo prevails

Dr. Peeyush Maniyambath and K. Mantrachalam combined well to emerge the nett winner of the KAY ARR Enterprises Trophy golf tournament played on an Against Bogey Partners by lot (best ball, maximum 24) format at the Coimbatore Golf Club course recently.

The results:

Nett: 1. Dr. Peeyush Maniyambath / K. Mantrachalam +13; 2. K.K. Chandrasekar / N. Ramesh.

Gross: 1. P.R. Ramakrishnan / Rajkumar Davidar -3 .

Easy for Maruthi

At Namakkal, P. Jayamuthuraman chipped in a useful 59 in Maruthi CC's three-wicket win over AFCC in the TNCA-DCAN second division league recently.

The scores: Second division: AFCC 139 in 32.4 overs (Ramchandran 31, Senthil four for 26) lost to Maruthi CC 143 for seven in 30.2 overs (P. Jayamuthuraman 59).

Asia's XI CC 138 in 31.4 overs (L. Perumal 57, Srinath three for 28, Sudhakar three for 22) bt Masters CC 120 in 33.3 overs (Nachimuthu three for 25).

Thomas's 110 in vain

At Krishnagiri, B. Thomas's 110 went in vain as Rising Stars lost to Ashok Leyland Cricket Club by two wickets in the TNCA-KDCA first division league recently.
