Learning experience: Students attending a model United Nations Assembly at the Good Shepherd International School in M.Palada near Udhagamandalam on Wednesday.
Udhagamandalam: Reading and writing took a back seat at the Good Shepherd International School (GSIS) in M.Palada near Udhagamandalam on Wednesday.
Witnessed by C.V. Ranganathan, former Ambassador to China, France and Ethiopia and a good number of invitees including students from a few other schools, the Shepherdians put their heads and hands together to conduct a model United Nations Assembly.
With the students donning the roles of Presidents and Prime Ministers, sessions dealing with the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), the Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN), the Human Rights Commission (HRC) and the General Assembly were conducted.
Speaking to The Hindu, some of the participants said that it gave an opportunity to take a hard look at many of the problems confronting the world and evolve ways to resolve them.
The Principal, GSIS, P.C.Thomas, said that the objective of the exercise was to make the students ‘global citizens'. Mr.Ranganathan later addressed the students.
