India Post to introduce core banking solutions in six months

Parchur is the first to get the facility in Vijayawada Division

ONGOLE: Indian Railways' Passenger Reservation System (PRS) was launched at Parchur post office in Prakasam district on Wednesday by Union Minister of State for Handlooms Panabaka Lakshmi.

Speaking on the occasion, she thanked Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee for fulfilling the long-cherished desire of people of Parchur, without any rail link, to get the facility to book their tickets from and to anywhere in the country.

One more such facility would be started in the Addanki post office in the district later, said the Minister, who was accompanied by Parchur MLA Dagubati Venkateswara Rao.

She assured rail users that she would use her good offices with the Railway Minister for stoppage of the Janshatabdhi and K.K. expresses at Bapatla, her home constituency.

India Post would introduce in about six months core banking solution to provide all value-added banking services to users of post offices, said Vijayawada Post Master General M. Sampath.

The PRS facility at the post offices would help India Post net additional income, besides providing easy access to more people in far off places, he added.

Vijayawada Divisional Railway Manager Anurag said Parchur was the first to get the facility in the division. It would be introduced in Vedayyapalem, Gollala Mamidala, Penugonda, Jaggampeta, Rajole and Polavaram in the division subsequently.
