JAIPUR: In a significant move for development through the cooperative sector, the Rajasthan Government on Wednesday decided to convert all village cooperative societies in 11 districts covered in the Integrated Cooperative Development Project (ICDP) into mini-banks. The mini-bank counters will be opened at Rajiv Gandhi Vikas Kendras being constructed in village panchayats. State Principal Cooperative Secretary R. K. Meena said here that the mini-bank model would be evolved in a manner that facilitates delivery of all services to farmers. The banking services will be accompanied by the supply of agricultural equipment, consumer items and godown facility. Final shape Mr. Meena addressed a meeting for giving final shape to the detailed project report for ICDP in 11 districts in accordance with Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot's announcement in his Budget speech. Under the ICDP, districts are selected for coverage on the State Government's recommendation and a team of multi-disciplinary experts prepares the detailed project report. Cooperative bodies are given assistance under the project for development of infrastructure facilities and provided with margin money to enable them to raise working capital. Registrar of Cooperative Societies P. S. Mehra said financial assistance would be provided to the cooperative institutions in the selected districts for various activities, such as construction of godowns, training programmes and furniture fixtures. Finance Secretary (Budget) Yaduvendra Mathur suggested that a provision under the ICDP be made for opening mini supermarkets for supplying consumer goods in the rural areas.
