Eviction drive: SHRC summons Commissioner

BHUBANESWAR: The State Human Rights Commission asked Commissioner of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation to be present physically on November 11 pertaining to eviction of a woman from Mahatma Gandhi Marg.

On January 14, 2009, a makeshift house of Susmita Sahoo was razed during a eviction drive jointly taken up by the BMC and Bhubaneswar Development Authority. It enraged the lady so much that she tried to enter the State secretariat in a naked body.

The roadside vendor then filed a police case . But police took no action. Saddened Ms. Sahoo subsequently approached the SHRC which asked commissioner to depose before it.
