Bid to damage Potti Sriramulu statue foiled

HYDERABAD: An attempt to damage the statue of Potti Sriramulu on the Telugu University premises here was thwarted by alert security guards on Friday evening.

Sprinkle diesel

Two unidentified youngsters attempted to sprinkle diesel on the statue presumably to set it on fire, but took to heels as the guards rushed to the statue.

Alarmed at the advancing guards, the duo dropped the bottle containing diesel and ran away.

The attempt to desecrate or damage the statue comes in the backdrop of pro-Telangana organisations threatening to disrupt the State Formation Day celebrations to be held on Monday.

The Telugu University at Nampally is named after Potti Sriramulu.
