Demand for installing Chakali Ilamma's statue

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Rajaka Vruthidarula Sangham (washermen's association) on Sunday demanded installation of Chakali Ilamma, one of the leaders of the Telangana armed struggle, on the Tank Bund, here.

K. Satyanarayana, president, and P. Ashaiah, general secretary of the association in a press release here on Sunday said Ilamma, belonging to a low caste, had not only revolted against ‘zamindar' Ramachandra Reddy, during the struggle, but also saved her crop and inspired the fight against the Nizam.
