‘City yet to unleash its potential'
B. Smitha Rao of Ladyhill writes with regard to the Public Eye on Bunder area:
“The dependence of a large number of families on marine life is a great reflection of the lifestyle and culture of Mangalore. The city is ideally situated and is yet to unleash the full potential of its ports through better infrastructure and labour-friendly mechanisation.
“The antiquity of Golikatta bazaar, the durability of the buildings and the constancy of spirit of its traders is genuinely praiseworthy.
As regards the APMC Act, 1966, although it is necessary to uphold the spirit of the Act, the spirit of business and the interests of traders should not be forsaken. Shifting Central Market traders may result in congestion at APMC. ”
