IVDP extends education scholarship to 130 children

KRISHNAGIRI: The Krishnagiri-based NGO, the Integrated Village Development Project (IVDP), has extended education scholarship to the tune of Rs. 13 lakh to130 children of widows of Self-Help Groups operating under its fold here recently.

Faridha Nawab, Chairperson, Krishnagiri Municipality, handed over the cheques to the children of widow members of the SHGs at a function held on the R.C. Fathima School campus in Krishnagiri in the presence of M. Baskaran, Chief Education Officer (Sarva Siksha Abiyan).

Kulandei Francis, president, IVDP, told The Hindu that as part of the programme and encourage them to give college education such a scholarship was introduced. This scheme would continue in the years to come, he added.

Apart from this, the organisation also extended Rs. 2 lakh to the kin of the deceased staff of the IVDP.

The organisation also extended its help to the wards of the SHG members every year, he added. The incomes generated through the SHGs were spent for the welfare of the SHG members and staff members through various modes. This was in practice ever since the organisation came into being from Natrampalayam, a small hamlet near Anchetty in Denkanikottai taluk, Mr. Francis said.

Mr. Baskaran lauded the gesture of the IVDP. He also recalled that the IVDP was distributing guides to the students of SSLC and Plus two for the past several years free of cost.

Recently, the organisation also distributed 3600 pet bottles for the children of all the Municipal schools in Krishnagiri to nurture the habit among the children to bring safe and protected drinking water to the school.
