‘BJP vote share has been climbing over the years'

Party felicitates activists who won in local body elections

Thrissur: BJP State president V. Muraleedharan has said the CPI(M) is playing down BJP's growth in the State.

He was addressing a meeting here on Wednesday to felicitate BJP activists who won local body elections. “In local body elections, the BJP's gains improved by a third. The allegedly false statistics that CPI(M) State secretary foisted on people will not retard the BJP's growth,” he claimed.

He said the BJP garners eight to 10 per cent of votes in any election in the State. “In all, 93 BJP members have been elected councillors. In 25 per cent of local bodies, the BJP has strong presence,” he claimed.

“The number of votes is steadily climbing over the years. It shows that the people are fed up with the UDF and the LDF,” he added.

He accused the UDF and the LDF of religious appeasement.

“The Marxists have helped the Socialist Democratic Party of India (SDPI) win in Kasaragod and Kannur. In Vazhakkulam, the Congress worked for the victory of the SDPI.

The UDF need not take pride in its victory. The triumph is not the outcome of mass approval, but religious appeasement,” he alleged.

He criticised the Congress for accusing some RSS members of involvement in acts of terrorism. “The Congress is harping on these charges to show the RSS in a bad light. No bid can diminish the glory of RSS, which has a hoary history and tradition. Knowing the contribution of RSS to national reconstruction, Jawaharlal Nehru had invited Swayamsevaks to take part in the Republic Day parade in New Delhi,” he said.

BJP district president B. Gopalakrishnan urged Thrissur MLA Therambil Ramakrishnan to reveal his stand on the remarks by Congress president Sonia Gandhi against the RSS.

BJP leaders K. V. Sreedharan, Ravikumar Uppathu, A. Nagesh and K. K Surendran were among those present. BJP members who won local body elections were presented with saplings of Elanji tree (Mimusops elengi Linn).
