Hearing aids handed over

Tuticorin: The International Day for the Elderly was observed here on Tuesday. At a programme organised by the Department of Social Welfare at St. Innaciyar Higher Secondary School, welfare assistance to the tune of Rs. 2.5 lakh was extended to 139 beneficiaries. Minister for Social Welfare P. Geetha Jeevan distributed hearing aids to five elderly people.

Moreover, old age pension benefits of Rs. 47, 200 were also extended to 118 beneficiaries. Besides, financial assistance of Rs. 2 lakh was provided to 10 transgenders for starting business ventures. Mayor R. Kasthuri Thangam, P. Muthunayagam, District Social Welfare Officer, N. Periyasami, Committee Member, Tuticorin Port Trust, were present.
