GOODWILL GESTURE:Members of the Sri Allamprabhu Annadana Samithi distributing sweets to prisoners at the Bijapur District Jail on Thursday. Bijapur: Sri Allamprabhu Annadana Samithi, a non-governmental organisation of Chikkodi in Belgaum district, distributed sweets and food to prisoners at Bijapur District Jail on the eve of Deepavali festival here. Addressing prisoners after distributing sweets and food to them, Dayanand Swamiji of Hukkeri said that no man is a criminal by birth. Most of the times circumstances force people to take law into their hands. People should follow the ideals of great personalities and also concentrate on spirituality to face difficult situations in life. He also advised the prisoners to rectify their mistakes they had committed and try to lead a contented life after their release from jail by following the path of truth and non-violence through which Mahatma Gandhiji became a great man. President of the samithi Sunanda Hukkeri said that the samithi came into existence in 2004 with an intention to help the poor and the downtrodden in society. Every year, the samithi arranges for free medical check-up camps for the poor, distributes free medicines, provides financial assistance for major operations and provides food and accommodation to destitute children. Last year, the samithi celebrated Deepavali at Hindalga Jail in Belgaum district by distributing sweets and food to prisoners.
