Truck driver shot dead by suspected militants

IMPHAL: An Assamese truck-driver abducted by suspected militants was shot dead on Wednesday when the owner of the vehicle refused to pay Rs. 90,000 demanded as ransom. Police reports said Lamba Viswakarma (27) of Baramalipor, Assam, was abducted on October 30 at Kangpokpi in Manipur.

Reports said that he was transporting salt and lentils to Imphal when he was intercepted and whisked away at gun-point. The truck belongs to Lakshman Prasad, settled at Dimapur, Nagaland.— PTI
