Appointment orders to constables soon

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The government will announce the results of the police recruitment test by November-end, paving way for appointment of 16,000 constables.

Home Minister P. Sabitha Reddy said these constables would be given postings after the mandatory training.

She said after a review of the law and order situation by Chief Minister K. Rosaiah here on Saturday that the police machinery in the districts lying in cyclone path had been directed to help revenue authorities in evacuation operations.

Many families were unwilling to leave their houses at the vulnerable villages because of the fear that if they left their places, thieves would steal the household articles.

The police in Nellore, Prakasam, Chittoor, Guntur and Krishna had been instructed to stand by the revenue staff and instil confidence among the people.

Ms. Sabitha Reddy said it had been decided to create a post of additional director-general of police, traffic, to handle all the traffic-related problems in the State with focus on cities like Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam.

The Minister said 1,000 men out of ex-servicemen would be inducted into police force as “special police officers” in Hyderabad to tackle traffic problems.

The Home Minister said 50 per cent of the penalties collected for traffic violations would be apportioned to the police to implement initiatives to streamline traffic.
