Kanpur: A case of murder has been registered against four policemen as the man they had gone to arrest jumped from the third floor of a building and died in the Raipurva area of the city, the police said on Saturday.
A police team reached the building to catch a group of five men who were gambling and fighting after consuming alcohol at 3 a.m., said Sameer Saurabh, Circle Officer of the Anwarganj Police Station.
He said one of the five men, Sameer Kumar Nigam (27), panicked and jumped from the roof of the three-storey building to save himself from the police. He was severely injured and succumbed to his injuries even before being taken to hospital.
“On the basis of the complaint of Sameer's family members, an FIR has been lodged against the Jhakarkati police station in charge and sub-inspector Nandlal and three more police constables under Sections 302 and 394 of the IPC,” Mr. Saurabh told PTI. The police are on high alert after the incident as people of the area resorted to minor violence, blaming the police for loot and pushing the boy from the roof, he said.
