A museum in memory of Father Muller

FOR 250 YEARS:The Vatican calendar from 1800 to 2050 at the Father Muller Museum in Mangalore.

MANGALORE: Father Muller Medical College Hospital at Kankanady opened a mini museum in memory of its founder the late Father Augustus Muller here recently as it observed his death centenary.

The late Father Muller was a Jesuit Missionary from Germany who established the charitable institution in 1880 in Mangalore, and died at the age of 69 on November 1,1910, said Father Denis D'Sa, administrator of the college.The museum has been set up in two small rooms having personal belongings of Fr. Muller, including a medicine pouch with homoeopathic specifics, a wine container, medicine chest, cutlery and tureen used by him, medals won by him, bones (preserved after his death), a bed and a chair used by him. It has been a wooden sofa presented to him by L.P. Fernandes in memory of his grandfather Boniface Fernandes of Canara High School, the then “Codialbail” on November 21, 1908.

It has homoeopathic textbooks written by the late Fr. Muller and two books each translated into Hindi and Kannada.

Books which Fr. Muller used to refer such as Medical Jurisprudence of India, Pearson's Magazine, Medical Annual, 1910.

It has copies of marriage grant certificates which Fr. Muller granted to eight couples between 1890 and 1892.

Fr. Muller's life in Mangalore has been chronicled. Earlier, Commissioner of Police Seemant Kumar Singh and Bishop of Mangalore Aloysius Paul D'Souza participated in the death centenary celebrations organised by the institution.
