A festival for artistes
Staff Reporter
The dance festival begins on November 13.
BANGALORE: Dancers from across the country will be dialling Arogyadhara, a health helpline extended to needy musicians, albeit in a different way as proceeds from the 11th annual Kala Nadam Festival of Dance will go towards the helpline. This three-day classical dance festival starting from November 13 at ADA Rangamandira is being organised by Narthan Academy of Dance and Music (NADAM) and will feature Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Seraikella Chhau, Odissi and Kreeda.
“Our first festival was dedicated to cancer patients and the tradition continues every year. We have raised funds for differently abled people, children of devadasis and kids whose parents are in prison,” said Nandini K. Mehta, Director of NADAM.
The festival will feature performances by Anuj and Kantika Misra from Lucknow, Odissi from the Bhubaneshwar-based Orissa Dance Academy, Seraikella Chhau from the New Delhi-based Shashadhar Acharya and group, and Kathak performance by Nandini K. Mehta, K. Murali Mohan and NADAM ensemble. Arogyadhara is a health helpline that works for those who have dedicated their lives to music and are in need of medical support in their old age. It issues identity cards that enables artists to get a concession on bills from associated hospitals and specialists.
