IIM-Calcutta golden jubilee celebrations from Nov. 14

Staff Reporter

Kolkata: Stepping into its 50th year, the Indian Institute of Management-Calcutta plans to celebrate its golden jubilee over a period of two years – starting with a three-day event on November 14.

The year, incidentally, also marks the golden jubilee of the IIM system, of which IIM-Calcutta was the first institution.

According to a statement issued by the IIM-C authorities on Monday, the first two days of the celebrations will witness a convention on Management Education in India in which directors from all the IIMs and other renowned management schools in the country, noted academicians and industry leaders will deliberate on significant issues and challenges facing the management schools in India and the way forward.

Reminiscing session

A reminiscing session about the institute -- ‘IIMC@50' -- will be held by the faculty, staff, alumni and present students on the third day, followed by the planting of saplings.

Several retired faculty members, past directors, current faculty and staff will be honoured at the concluding ceremony.

While Ms. Puradeshawari, Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development, will grace the inaugural ceremony on November 14, West Bengal Governor M. K. Narayanan will be present at the concluding session of the two-day convention on November 15.

Several international conferences, workshops and seminars will also be organized as part of the golden jubilee celebration.
