DINDIGUL: The Palani-Kodaikanal Ghat Road, which was closed for three days, owing to a massive landslide, was thrown open for vehicular traffic on Monday, thanks to a 48-hour-long swift patch work done by the workforce of the State Highways Department. To begin with, buses proceeding from Palani were allowed to cross this damaged area near Saverikadu in the presence of a strong workforce comprising more than 10 workers in the morning. The Highways engineers were closely monitoring the movement of each and every vehicle crossing this stretch. Later, buses and other vehicles from Kodaikanal too were allowed to pass this stretch, said Highways Divisional Engineer P. Jayaraj. Braving intermittent showers on the hill, the team had completed the work on Sunday evening. The traffic was closed three days ago owing to a massive landslide near the fourth bend and at three places near Saverikadu on Kodaikanal-Palani Ghat Road. The 25-metre-long road was damaged in the landslide and a 10-metre deep gorge developed. Sandbags were dumped in large numbers to fill the gorge.Construction of permanent structure on this stretch would commence after this rainy season, he added.
