Collector inspects works

Spot assessment: Collector T.K.Ponnusami inspecting construction works under Kalaignar Housing Scheme in Koovathur village in Ariyalur district.
ARIYALUR: The District Collector T.K. Ponnusamy on Tuesday took stock of the pace of implementation of the Kalaignar Housing Scheme in Andimadam union.
The Collector directed officials to expedite the work and hand it over to the beneficiaries.
He determined the quality of cement and bricks used for construction of the houses sanctioned under the scheme.
Construction of library
Mr. Ponnusamy subsequently inspected the construction of library worth Rs. 3.30 lakh under the Anna Marumalarchi Thittam. Later, he visited Anganwadi centre at Koovathur to ensure if the noon meals were prepared hygienically.
He also scrutinised the construction of a road for a 2.45 km stretch with Rs. 65.93 lakh under the Pradhan Manthri Gram Sadak Yojana.
During a surprise inspection at Thuvathoor in Andimadam Union, he suspended the noon meal organiser and two assistants for failing to comply with government norms while preparing food for 150 school students.
The Collector found that usage of rice, vegetables and eggs was inadequate.
New bus stand
Earlier, Mr. Ponnusamy inaugurated the new bus stand and commercial complex in Andimadam town.
