Dipika wins, Joshna loses

CHENNAI: Putting aside the disappointment of having had to drop out of the competition in the New Delhi Commonwealth Games because of illness, India's Dipika Pallikal made a strong start with a fighting win over Ireland's Aisling Blake in a first round match of the Qatar Classic squash being held in Doha.

The unseeded Indian won in five games 13-11, 3-11, 4-11, 11-4, 12-10 that went to 64 minutes.

Another Indian, Joshna Chinappa battled it out against New Zealand's Jaclyn Hawkes but lost the grip in the final game.

The New Zealander won the 47-minute tussle 11-5, 4-11, 11-4, 9-11, 11-8.
