IGNOU to offer programme in arts

New Delhi: To preserve and promote traditional art forms, Indira Gandhi National Open University on Tuesday said it will offer a certificate programme in “indigenous practices” such as tribal and martial arts.

An MoU has been signed with the four zonal cultural centres under the Union Cultural Ministry as part of its Guru-Shishiya Parampara Scheme so that the regions can promote their culture, including performing arts, unique to their place. The four centres are the South Zone Centre in Thanjavur, South Central Zone Cultural Centre in Nagpur, North Central Zone Cultural Centre at Allahabad and East Zone Cultural Centre in Kolkata.
