Take China threat seriously: Mulayam

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The former Defence Minister and Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh on Tuesday expressed fears of an impending “attack” by China and said the threat needed to be taken seriously.

“China is laying claim to several of our States including Arunachal Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, besides the Ladakh region in Jammu and Kashmir,” he alleged in the Lok Sabha during zero hour. He was supported by Janata Dal (United) chief Sharad Yadav.

Mr. Singh wanted Parliament to immediately discuss the issue in view of the threat.

He earlier unsuccessfully tried to raise the issue as soon as the House met for the day, with other SP members also trooping into the well.

While Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal said he would draw the attention of the Defence Minister to the issue, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee said the matter would be discussed.

Mr. Singh said roads laid on the border with China when he was Defence Minister now turned bad. As against this, China had built four eight-lane roads on its side of the border.
